To make a correct installation of the electric retarder in your vehicle, it’s essential to count on the control systems that guarantees the compatibility between both. Operating with 4 independent high-quality mechanical relays it supplies power in stages to the circuits of the retarder coils. Typically the relays are activated (a) when the driver applies the brake pedal (b) or when the throttle pedal is released or (c) when a manual hand control lever is applies.

By means of mounting a pressure transducer or (4) independent pressure switches in line with the vehicle air brake line, allows the driver to activate the retarder in 4 stages when applying the brake pedal. The (4) relays will close independently in stages depending on driver brake pedal pressure. Each rely or “STAGE” once closed will result in the retarder to produce 25% of its total output torque, meaning that when all 4 relays are closed 100% output torque is achieved resulting in 85% vehicle braking before the foundation brakes are engaged.
Deactivates the retarder when the vehicle is moving below 2mph or is stopped, thus avoiding unnecessary energy consumption when the retarder does not apply braking. It should be installed whenever the brake pedal control is used and is recommended when installing the manual control only.
